NEW JOB!!!

I finally have found a job! I have been searching non-stop since I got home from Colorado and I have finally found a job.

Just a few of the places I have tried are Staples, Burger King (gotta carry on the tradition!), Macey's and a whole lot of other random places on the Internet.

Staples, was promising at first, but then it was a definite N-O. I went their with just a resume in hand. They accepted it. I dropped in a few days later and the assistant manager told me to fill out an online application and then to give him a call. It seemed really promising! So I went and filled out the application and then gave him a call. He put me on hold while he pulled up the application on his computer. He came back and bluntly told me that I didn't pass the personality test and that he couldn't hire me. This was followed immediately with a goodbye and *click*.

Burger King seemed even more promising. I went in turned in an application along with a resume and then returned a few days later to check in with them. They promptly scheduled me with an interview. The first interview rolled around and it was interesting. They didn't come out and get me until about half an hour later. And then she asked me if we could reschedule, saying that they were having issues with the crew. So I came back in for the next interview and it seemed less promising. I tried to joke with her and make the interview into more of a conversation rather than an interrogation. She did a great job keeping a straight face, I must say!! She told me that they would call me by the end of the week when they got things figured out. She also told me that they hired a ton of people just prior to my first interview. They never called so I took initiative and called them. Each time I called, I couldn't seem to get hold of the right person.

So the next place I tried was Walmart. Mom and I were doing some shopping there for valentines day. When we checked out, there was a person helping the cashier and it happened to be an assistant manager. So randomly I asked her if they were hiring. She said that they were and that I should fill out the online application. I lost hope just because they all seem to say that. When we were walking out Mom told me that I should go back and tell her that I have had a really hard time finding a job and ask her if she could consider me a little more (in essence). So I went back and talked to her and she took my name down and told me once more to fill out the online application. So I filled it out and forgot about it. The following week, I get a call from a department manager asking if I would be available for an interview. Of course, I said heck yes!

So I went in on Monday. It was a two part interview, once by the (...by the way it's snowing) department manager and once by an assistant manager. By the way, the position that they are interviewing for is in the electronics department! After the first interview with the department manager, we just hung out a little and he showed me a few things of the sources available on the computers. I turned to him and asked him what the chances were of getting this job. He told me that they were really high! He continued to tell me that he has a little bit of say in this. So I went into the next interview and did almost the same thing, it was a little different than the first, but not much. Afterward, he had me filling out some forms for background checks and stuff. He got me all situated with taking a drug test (which I did yesterday) and just a few other things. I turned to him and asked him, like I did the department manager, how much of a chance I had at getting the job. He looked confused. He asked what job. I hesitantly replied "This job". He looked at me even more confused. He said, "You already have this job." Then recognition hit his face. He said, "Oh, sorry! I should have told you, you're hired!" Anyway, so I'm just waiting for them to call and tell me to come in for orientation and then they're going to start me working!

Two Bit Hair Cut

So, my hair started getting a little long. And I figured I should probably keep it a maintainable length for work. I remember growing up that Doug, Bryan, and I think Darin would all cut their own hair at the same time Mom cut mine. So I asked Doug for a few tips and pointers about cutting your own hair. Teresa then had me practice my hair cutting skills (or shaving skills) on Preston. I'm not going to lie, It turned out pretty good! The whole time I was cutting prestons hair, he was begging for a mohawk! I kept telling him, "Only if we can die it pink". So then later that day I worked up the nerve to cut my own hair. Once again, I think I did a great job on it...until I got to the end. I was touching up on the back with just the blade. I was just finishing up and i decided to throw in a couple of swipes on the sides (just being the perfectionist I am, thanks to Dad!lol) and realized that I didn't have any of the plastic things on that go over the blade. I ended up with a few streaks up one side of my head! I put everything away and waited till Doug got home to have him fix it. He laughed at my mistake then fixed it for me. (Oh, Dad, don't worry, I did shave. I had gotten back from scout camp and hadn't had a chance to shave. The next morning after I got home from scout camp we headed down to Evergreen for the weekend. Then we got home monday morning and were running around that whole day. But I did get it done!)

Playin' Catch Up

Well, a lot has happened in the past couple of weeks. The beginning of July was pretty busy.

On July 14, I called up my Scout Master back in Utah and talked with him a while. I passed of two of merit badges I needed in order to advance to my Life rank. Then after that we had a short board of review and was passed off as a Life Scout. I am planning (and hoping) to have my Eagle Scout by my 18th birthday next year. As it is, I need four more merit badges and an eagle project.

Then on the 15th through the 18th, I went to scout camp here in Colorado. It was located over in Flat Tops Wilderness which is near Grand Junction, CO. It was great there, I earned three out of four merit badges: Astronomy, Emergency Preparedness, and Wilderness Survival. I attempted to complete the fishing merit badge; the only requirement I didn't acomplish was catching two spieces of fish, releasing one, and cleaning and cooking the other. I fished every single night i was there, but I didn't catch a single fish. They were jumping like crazy, but I didn't catch a single fish. I'm thinking I wasn't using the right kind of bait. I probably should have tied a fly to the end cause they were obviously going for the flies. So anyway, scout camp was tons of fun.

Before all of this we went rafting on a creek outside of Idaho Springs, CO. We took the Intermediate trip which consisted mostly of class 3 and four rapids. It was fun, but I was a little bummed at some of the class fours. I was expecting more out of them, but it was a fun and great experience none the less.
